Funds to Progress Futuristic Aerospace Training and Simulation for the Warfighter

Santa Monica, CA, June 18, 2020 – Red 6, a revolutionary technology firm at the forefront of synthetic training, is pleased to announce that it has received a strategic investment from Lockheed Martin Ventures, the strategic investment arm of Lockheed Martin Corporation, a leader in innovation for aerospace and defense. The funds will be used to accelerate the development and commercialization of Red 6’s ATARS (Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System).

“ATARS allows real pilots in real airplanes to fly and visually maneuver against any synthetically generated enemy in real time, which is a new paradigm in training and operations,” said Daniel Robinson, CEO of Red 6. “The Red 6 team is passionate about providing the quantity and quality of training that our warfighters deserve. Working with aerospace leaders such as Lockheed Martin, who understand the value of our technology and how to integrate it into current and future platforms, is incredibly important. In that sense, we view Red 6’s relationship with Lockheed Martin as an important long-term working relationship.”

“Our charter is to strategically invest in smaller companies focused on innovative technologies that can be utilized within Lockheed Martin’s existing businesses. Red 6 fits this mission,” said Chris Moran, Executive Director and General Manager of Lockheed Martin Ventures. “We are excited to add Red 6 to our investment portfolio and look forward to working with their team and gaining access to their synthetic training capability that could be applied to both current and future platforms.”

Red 6 has been working with the US Air Force for the past two years through AFWERX, a United States Air Force program with the goal of fostering a culture of innovation within the service. Red 6’s technology has received universal praise from the US Air Force and is the first AFWERX backed company to be awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III. Previous investors include Moonshots Capital, Starburst Accelerator and Irongate Capital Partners.

The investment by Lockheed Martin Ventures builds upon Red 6’s continued momentum following the recent award of a Megagrant from Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, a key collaborator in the ATARS development process. “I couldn’t think of a stronger team of players for simulation and training development than the ones we have now,” stated Robinson.

Technology innovator to create the most advanced airborne augmented reality training

Santa Monica, CA, May 7, 2020 – Red 6 is proud to announce the integration of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine into Red 6’s first-of-its-kind flight training system ATARS (Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System).

“We are incredibly excited about the possibilities for this joint effort, and the impact it will have on the next generation of U.S. and Allied combat pilots,” said Daniel Robinson, CEO of Red 6.

Red 6 is an innovator at the forefront of Synthetic Training Environment development with the United States Air Force and the U.S. Navy. “We have leveraged many technologies originally developed for the consumer market to accelerate our development of ATARS and to, in effect, create the world’s first video game in the sky,” stated Nick Bicanic, CTO of Red 6. “Moving to Unreal is just the beginning of a multi-step journey to create the ultimate augmented reality training system. I couldn’t think of a better technology collaborator to embark on this journey with than Epic Games,” added Bicanic.

“Blending real world and synthetic training is the core vision of simulation professionals.” said Sebastien Loze, Simulations Industry Manager at Epic Games. “The suspension of disbelief brought by solutions like Red 6 ATARS enables us to realistically interact with virtual tactical scenarios and helps pave the way to the next generation of training.”

Red 6 is the recipient of $250,000 in financial support for its use of Unreal Engine as part of the Epic MegaGrants program. Launched in March 2019, Epic MegaGrants is designed to service and assist game developers, enterprise professionals, media and entertainment creators, students, educators, and tool developers doing outstanding work with Unreal Engine or enhancing open-source capabilities for the 3D graphics community.

“Integrating these technologies is the next step toward delivering realistic, efficient, and cost effective training to the warfighter,” said Robinson.
